Chinese porridge (congee) is a staple dish in China, which usually served as a healthy breakfast.
What is Chinese porridge?
Chinese porridge (Chinese: 粥; pinyin: zhōu ) is a thick food made from grains such as rice, millet or corn beans.
In China, porridge was mainly used as food in 4,000 years ago, and it was used for medicinal in 2500 years ago, but it gradually evolved into health food in the middle ages.
The benefit of Chinese porridge
1. When white rice is boiled at a temperature of more than 60 degrees Celsius, it will turn into a rice-paste porridge, which is very easy to digest and suitable for people with upset stomachs.

What to serve with Chinese porridge
For breakfast, it is usually served with pickled sauerkraut, pickled mustard, salted duck eggs, lettuce, bamboo shoots, tofu, gluten, marinated ginger, spicy cabbage, pickled radish, cucumber, kelp, peanuts, preserved eggs, chicken, pork, floss, Youtiao and other fried or boiled vegetables. You’ll need:
60g white rice
1kg clear water
How to make Chinese porridge
1. Gently rinse the rice and soak it in clear water for 30 minutes. Drain the rice and mix it with a teaspoon of oil.
2. Heat a wok with clear water until boiling, add the rice in the wok. Continues to cook it for 5-8 minutes until the water turns into the color of rice milk. (At the same time, stirring continuously with a spoon in the same direction.)
3. Turn the fire down. Place a pair of wooden chopsticks on the mouth of the wok, and then cover the lid on the chopsticks. And continue to cook it for 45 minutes under low heat until the rice soft. Serve it.
