What is Bon Bon Chicken?
Bon bon chicken (Chinese: 棒棒鸡; pinyin: bàng bàng jī; literally: ‘bang-bang chicken’) is a kind cold dish of Sichuan cuisine. It is a collection of classic Sichuan-style cooked food dishes, including a variety of cooking techniques such as marinating, salad and soaking. It can also be made into a series of special flavors such as spicy, spiced, pickled pepper, rattan pepper, spicy, savory and sauce.
History of bon bon chicken
According to legend, during the Ming and Qing Dynasties, there is one person who comes from a remote area called Ya’an liked delicious food very much. After a long period of research and soup mix practice, he finally creates an amazing chicken dish. That is bon bon chicken.
But at that time, the chicken was very precious and most people couldn’t afford it. So someone thought of a great idea that is cut the whole chicken into many slices and sold it by piece. And it was well-received by the masses.
However, another issue happened: a kitchen blade couldn’t cut an entire chicken into cuts equitably, and clients are frequently particular when making buys. Be that as it may, it was discovered that beating the chicken into pieces with a stick would deal with this issue.
At the same time, soup broth infuses into the chicken and adds flavor. When preparing the cuisine, one holds a stick and another holds a knife; the sound made by the stick and the knife striking each other has a cadenced, subsequently the name bon bon chicken.

Easy to make and really delicious. I left out the egg (I know, sacrilege but we just don’t do eggs) but I took your advice and used Sichuan pepper. You were right, the Sichuan pepper added a yummy flavor that made it perfect. Delicious!

OH MY GOODNESS!!!!! This is the best recipe ever! My husband and I love chicken and often spend great deals of money at the restaurant. I don’t think we will ever buy chicken from a restaurant again! Even my youngest son, the pickiest of eaters, said it was better than the restaurant! So this one is definitely a keeper!

One of my favorite recipes of all time. Sichuan pepper in Chinese was new to me, now it’s a go-to flavor combination for stir-fries.
